Celebrating 175 Years

175th

On July 1st, Monticello will be celebrating it’s 175th year on the map– officially, as that was the date in 1839 that James Piatt recorded the plat with (at that time) Macon County. Members of a committee made up of representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Monticello Main Street, the City of Monticello, and the Monticello Arts Council are planning a downtown celebration Saturday, June 30.

An official parade, “Celebrating 175 Years,” will step off at 1 p.m., with honor and recognition being given to local heroes and families from the community – past and present. The parade route will run north on Hamilton from the high school, west on Livingston Street, and south on State Street, ending in the downtown. Groups, organizations, and businesses are invited to participate in the parade. Parade entries can be made by contacting Sue Gortner, Executive Director of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, at 217-762-7921.
